Optoelectronics Lab

The PUCV’s School of Electrical Engineering Optoelectronics Lab seeks to develop research in instrumentation which combines the latest advances in electrical engineering such as the optics field, and to search the application areas as well, mainly in astronomy.

This laboratory counts with a great amount of specialized devices and tools. With a surface of 75m2, this space has among its inventory optoelectronics instruments such as mount tables, lens, mirrors, 3-D printers, computers, laser beams, and others.

Atmospherical Optics and Statistics Lab

The Atmospheric and Statistical Optics Laboratory of the Physics Institute from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso (PUCV) works with instrumentation and tools which aim to study light propagation phenomena in turblence atmospheres, statistics features of the speckle field, and the applications in optical metrology of these studies and researching.

Our installations have a main surface of 45mts, which has a independent three phase network 16A and 25A, negative air pressure and four independent sub-stations, and also have restricted access for authorized personnel only.

  • Cámaras de alta velocidad: Phantom v610 (1280×800, B&W 12-bit, 6242FPS), y AOS X-Pri (B&W 800X600, 8-bit, 1000FPS).
  • Digital Micromirror Devices (DMDs, dos equipos) V-7001 VIS (ViALUX, 1024×768, 1-bit, 23kHz).
  • Láseres de instrumentación (4 controladores para láseres de diodo con potencias desde 10 hasta 300mW en 635 y 380nm).
  • Telescopios Celestron Edge HD 1400 (35 cm de diámetro, f=39 cm, Schmidt-Cassegrain aplanático).
  • Sensor de frente de onda de Shack-Hartmann de alta resolución (1280×1024, 15 Hz, precisión máxima /50)
  • Mesas ópticas de absorción pasiva de vibraciones (Thor Labs).
  • Elementos ópticos y opto-mecánicos para montajes ópticos varios.
  • Sistemas de adquisición de datos de alta velocidad (National Instrument, 16-bit).
  • Clúster de cálculo que consiste de 4 servidores HP DL-160 G9 (2 Intel Xeon 8-Core E5-2609v4, 128GB RAM, HD HPE SATA 500GB); una unidad de almacenamiento de datos (NAS Synology DS413) de 16TB de capacidad instalada (expandible hasta 32TB); una estación de trabajo HP (2 Intel Xeon 12-Core E5-2680v3, 512GB RAM, 2HD 2TB); además de 5 iMac 27″ (Intel i5 4-Core, 4GB RAM, HD 1TB).
  • La estación de trabajo y el NAS son accesibles desde el exterior, por lo que es posible la realización de cálculos de forma remota.
